Adverse childhood events included abuse (physical, emotional or sexual), neglect (physical or emotional); growing up with household substance abuse, criminality of household members, mental illness among household members, and parental discord and illicit drug use.
Alcohol, tobacco and other drugs are affect youth negatively. Youth especially student's e.g. secondary and tertiary students abuse alcohol, tobacco and other Drugs. Drugs such as tobacco, cocaine and marijuana are the major drugs which students abuse or use.
Drug addiction is often overshadowed by many of the country’s other human development problems, such as poverty, illiteracy, and lack of awareness and basic health care center. But the fact is that drug addiction is rapidly growing among the youth of Pakistan. Drug addiction is a complex brain disease.
Drug abuse has numerous negative consequences, especially to the addicts. This paper is meant to discuss drug abuse as a threat to the society. Drug abuse causes multiple illnesses, injuries, and deaths worldwide and is common among youths.
The common drugs of choice are alcohol, cigarettes, speed, prescription drugs, heroin, cocaine and marijuana. Alcohol is the most abused drug, and it inhibits judgment among users (Stimson 34-48). Long term use leads to liver and kidney failure.
Substance abuse and problematic patterns of substance use among youth can lead to problems at school, cause or aggravate physical and mental health-related issues, promote poor peer relationships, cause motor-vehicle accidents, and place stress on the family.They can also develop into lifelong issues such as substance dependence, chronic health problems, and social and financial consequences. 1.
Additionally, there are consequences for: (a) family members, (b) the community, and (c) the entire society. This paper aims to deal with the extent of drug abuse among the youth in Africa, influencing factors, and the associated social and cultural disintegration, pointing out the dangers posed by drug abuse.
